Kedainiai Vocational Training Centre (hereinafter referred as to ‘the Centre’) is a public vocational education and training institution active in the Kedainiai District Municipality. The mission of the Centre is to provide initial and continuing vocational education and training, vocational education and training with the secondary education programme, basic education services as well as non-formal vocational training and education programmes.
Since the establishment of the Centre in 2001, its community has been working in partnership, communicating and cooperating with the social partners in Kedainiai District, Lithuania and abroad. The staff in the Centre is creative and open to innovations. The staff actively participates in the development and execution of projects. The international activity of the Centre, which is planned and executed following the internationalisation strategy, is beneficial to the institution and corresponds to its content. The main needs of our organisation in the fields of quality assurance in teaching/learning process and development of internationalisation are as follows: –
- to develop general and didactic competences of the staff;
- to become acquainted with the teaching methods and technologies applied in foreign countries;
- to enhance access to learning for learners of different ages, propensities, needs and abilities;
- to develop social partnership with European education institutions for building a future society of Europe.
Adult lifelong learning, informing and involving of adults into international activities remain the priority areas of the Centre’s strategic action plan.
In order to provide a possibility for all adults in the Kedainiai District Municipality to adapt to changing economic and social conditions, the Centre has been suggesting three non-formal training courses for adults since 2013, namely training on sewing, pastry-making, food preparation technology, and internal house finishing. The courses have been taking place for 5 years, with engagement of more than 400 participants. The sewing course for beginners and advanced users is the most popular one. About 156 women have already completed the courses. Various training programmes are suggested to the participants of courses: – “Sewing of bottoms”, “Sewing of light clothing”, “Clothing repair and makeover”, “Clothing design“, “Sewing of textile household products“. These programmes meet the particular market needs in the Kedainiai region, namely a high demand for sewing and repair services for textile and household items. The participants of the sewing courses gain the basic theoretical knowledge on sewing technology, based on modern technological tools and methods. Woven and knitted (from tricot) fabrics are used for practical training. The participants learn how to use a straight stitch sewing machine, and gain ability to complete basic clothing repair tasks (to shorten, to downsize and upsize a garment, to replace a zipper) and to sew simple cut bottoms, light tops and household products. Freshly gained and improved abilities allow the participants to fulfil and prove their creative potential; it also promotes creativeness and aesthetics, and opens unlimited possibilities for creating different household items.
The Centre has modern facilities, consisting of a modern sewing laboratory and a theoretical training classroom. There are ergonomic and comfortable cutting tables, a professional sewing equipment, consisting of sewing machines for woven and knitted fabric, hemming machines, cover-stich and chain-stich machines, a loop stich sewing machine, a flat lock sewing machine for sewing the bottom edge of knitted articles, etc. in the Centre.
Our qualified teachers are able to execute formal and non-formal adult training programmes, to provide adult training, to plan, fulfil and evaluate education process in the context of continuous improvement. The teachers arrange the learning content considering the abilities, age and preparedness of the learners. The educational content is also taken into consideration. The teachers choose and apply relevant teaching/learning methods and tools, develop adults’ sense of initiative and creativeness by getting them involved in active learning.
